Ramyug (2021)
Ram Yug is based on the mythological tale written by sage Valmiki on how Lord Rama trounced Ravana as he rescued his wife Seeta who was abducted by him. It is the quintessential story of how Lord Rama showed us the path of dharma. The series is a technically advanced one and looks lavish. Given that the old Ramayana is still a favourite, the makers have a task on hand.

What's hot
The highlight of the series lie in the technical aspects. Ram Yug looks beautiful courtesy the locale of Mauritius. Whether it is the walk in the forest (Panchvati), the sea or boat ride, every frame looks gorgeous. The sequence of the building of Ram Setu looks magnificent due to the sweeping views of the Indian Ocean. Rahul Sharma's music is another highlight of the series. The background score, songs and lyrics have the devotion and spirituality that captures essence of Ramayan. Abbas Ali Moghul has choreographed the action sequences well though they have a hangover of the Baahubali films. Kamlesh Pandey who has written the dialogues has tried to keep the language appealing enough for youngsters. The VFX for the show is done by Ilusion Reality Studioz and they have done a good job. Priyanka Raina's production design is also very neat. Talking about the performances, Diganth Manchale is earnest and has a likeable endearing quality about him. Tisca Chopra shines in her miniscule role of Kaikeyi. Vivaan Bhathena has the screen presence as Hanuman. The styling is also good.
What's not
The series has a huge drawback, which is its editing. Every episode is just too lengthy and time is spent on building moments. They could have incorporated some of the small anecdotes of the Ramayan instead. Also, it is preachy in places. Diganth Manchale as Lord Rama gives a lesson on devotion, duty, how time is a constant and what not. We are not sure how much it will appeal to young people. Kunal Kohli could have had a better grip on the subject and made it crisper. This is where the show falters a bit. Lastly, Kabir Duhan Singh is rather filmy as Ravana.
