a high-school student, finds her brother Pugsley tied up in a locker. She sees a psychic vision of the water polo team bullying Pugsley; in revenge, Wednesday unleashes piranhas into the high school pool but gets expelled. Her parents, Morticia and Gomez, decide to enroll her in Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts. Meanwhile, a hiker goes on a walk near Nevermore and is killed by an unknown creature. Wednesday's parents release Thing, a disembodied hand, to watch over her. She meets her roommate Enid, her complete opposite, and duels with Bianca, the popular girl after she bullies another boy, Rowan. Wednesday is later nearly killed by a falling gargoyle but is saved by Bianca's ex-boyfriend Xavier. Nevermore's principal Larissa Weems takes Wednesday to a court-ordered therapist, Dr. Valerie Kinbott. Wednesday escapes through a window and meets Tyler, who agrees to help her escape from Nevermore. Larissa discovers Jane, and she takes her back to the academy. Later, Tyler and Wednesday meet at the local fair, and Wednesday gets a vision of Rowan's death. She runs into the woods, and Rowan attempts to kill her using telekinesis but is murdered by the monster.
