Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was born on March 15, 1974, in Kochi, Kerala. He was the son of K. Unnikrishnan, a retired Indian Air Force officer, and Dhanalakshmi Unnikrishnan, a homemaker. He had one younger sister, Sandhya.
